Cancer Patient Support Program: Standing with Families When Treatment Feels Out of Reach

Cancer does not discriminate, but in Pakistan, the ability to survive it often depends on how much money your family has.

Approximately 170,000 Pakistanis die of cancer every year. The majority are diagnosed at an advanced stage because they could not afford the scans and tests that would have caught it earlier. Of those who are diagnosed, only a fraction can access full treatment, because chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and follow-up medications cost what a poor family earns in years, not months.

A single cycle of chemotherapy in a private hospital can cost Rs. 30,000–1,50,000. A surgical procedure for certain cancers runs into millions. For a daily wage earner, a small business owner, or a family already living on the edge, a cancer diagnosis is not just a medical crisis, it is the end of everything they have built.

Baitussalam Welfare Trust's (BWT) Cancer Patient Support Program was created so that no patient has to face this battle alone, and no family has to choose between treatment and survival.

What the Cancer Patient Support Program Provides

BWT's approach to cancer support is holistic, addressing every barrier a patient faces, from financial to logistical to emotional:

Financial Assistance

Direct financial support for chemotherapy, radiation, surgical procedures, and specialist consultations for patients who cannot afford private care.

Free Medicines

Access to cancer medicines, supplements, and pain management medications through BWT's pharmacy network and partner facilities.

Treatment Facilitation

We connect patients with specialist oncologists and partner hospitals offering subsidised or free cancer care.

Transport Support

Travel assistance for patients who cannot reach treatment centres due to distance, disability, or financial constraints.

Emotional & Moral Support

Volunteers provide companionship, prayer, and community support to patients and families during the most difficult period of their lives.

Emergency Aid

Rapid assistance for patients in a critical stage of treatment who face an immediate financial crisis.

Who Can Apply for Cancer Patient Support?

Any cancer patient in Pakistan who:

Has a confirmed cancer diagnosis (documentation required)

Cannot afford the full cost of private treatment

Is a Pakistani national or long-term resident

There is no quota on support. As long as funds are available, every qualifying patient will receive assistance. Applications are assessed by BWT's welfare team with full confidentiality and dignity.

The Numbers Behind Pakistan's Cancer Crisis

~170,000 cancer-related deaths annually in Pakistan (IARC)

Only 3% of patients have access to fully subsidised treatment

Breast, oral, and colorectal cancers are among the most common, and most treatable if caught early

Late-stage diagnosis is the norm for poor patients because early screening is inaccessible
