Jamaat Time, Jamia Masjid Baitussalam, DHA, Phase 4, Karachi, Pakistan

There are 26.2 million children out of school in Pakistan. This is the second highest number in the world. Behind every number is a child who wakes up each morning without the chance that education provides, a child whose entire life trajectory is shaped by the absence of a classroom, a teacher, and the skills to read and write.
The reasons these children are out of school are not mysterious. Their families are too poor to pay school fees. They live in areas without nearby schools. They are needed at home to earn, to look after siblings, or to help with household work. For girls, cultural barriers and safety concerns add another layer of exclusion.
Baitussalam Welfare Trust's Basic Educational Centres (BECs) exist to remove these barriers one by one. We bring free, quality, purpose-driven primary education to the communities that need it most, operating hundreds of educational centres across Pakistan so that every child, regardless of their family income or location, has access to the foundation that education provides.
|
Free Schooling No fees, no charges, no cost to families. Every child in a BEC receives their education completely free. |
Quality Curriculum A structured curriculum covering Urdu, English, mathematics, science, and Islamic studies, aligned with national education standards. |
Trained Teachers Qualified, trained teachers who are committed to making learning accessible, engaging, and effective for children of all abilities. |
|
Islamic Foundation Quran recitation, Islamic values, and character development woven throughout the curriculum from day one. |
School Supplies Books, stationery, and learning materials provided to students who cannot afford to buy them. |
Safe Environment A safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment where every child is valued and supported. |
BWT's Basic Educational Centres serve:
• Children from households below the poverty line who cannot afford any school fees
• Children in urban slums, katchi abadis, and informal settlements without nearby government schools
• Girls who face cultural or logistical barriers to attending mainstream schools
• Children in rural and peri-urban areas where government school infrastructure is weak or absent
• Children who have dropped out of the formal system and need a second chance
Baitussalam Welfare Trust operates across Pakistan with:
• 415+ educational centres providing learning to thousands of students
• 80,000+ students supported through BWT education programmes
• Hundreds of trained teachers working in BECs and partner schools
• Programmes operating in Karachi, Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan
A Basic Educational Centre is not just a place to learn to read and write. It is a space where children develop identity, values, and hope. BWT's BECs integrate Tarbiyah, the cultivation of moral and spiritual character, into every aspect of school life.
Students learn to be honest, responsible, and compassionate. They develop confidence in their own abilities. And they graduate from primary school not just with literacy and numeracy, but with the character to use those skills well.
